Exploring pathways of healing, connection, & leadership

through mind-body-creative practice and education.

THERE ARE STORIES IN THESE HANDS

My first collection of writing and somatic practice is now available for purchase.

These words and practices are for the world holders, deep feelers, heavy lifters, helpers, and burdened shoulders. For the ones that have learned, either through experience, agreement, protection, or observation.. to carry it all. These words are a navigation of inter-generational trauma. They are an invitation to investigate what is ours to hold and what is not, with intention and hope of moving towards putting down what is not ours to keep or carry. May we hold what is ours with care and have the courage to build different stories—stories that are not built on sacrifice, together.

There is a somatic or embodiment practice paired with each poem. This is to feel and be with the sensation of the poem in your body. It is an opportunity to create some internal space and explore how these qualities move in you. When we investigate ideas through the body, there is a deeper attunement to ourselves that is born. The body is a wise teacher and ally with much information to share. These practices are not rigid or static. They are meant to grow and breathe. Please adapt or shift them to your specific body in whatever way you need. Before beginning a practice, intentionally signal to your body that you are about to begin a practice. When complete with the practice, intentionally transition out of the practice and into the rest of your day.

Artist, Educator, & Practitioner

With a decade of experience as a practitioner and educator in trauma-informed mind-body and arts education, alongside over two decades as an artist, I am dedicated to leveraging the transformative power of the arts, body, and breath. I believe these languages can cultivate profound compassion and restore our connection with ourselves, others, and the land.

I founded Sovereign Creative Wellness LLC in 2021. I create curricula, programming, and projects that integrate mindfulness, social-emotional learning, somatic movement, theater, music, and writing to facilitate deep personal and collective growth. I am privileged to collaborate with many populations, including educators, practitioners, and disabled artists.

What is trauma-informed education? Trauma-informed education is an approach that recognizes the impact of trauma on students' learning, behavior, and overall well-being. It involves creating a safer, supportive, and understanding environment that acknowledges the prevalence of trauma and its effects. In trauma-informed spaces, facilitators are trained to recognize signs of trauma, build positive relationships, and implement strategies that promote resilience, choice and emotional healing. The goal is to help students feel safe, supported, and capable of learning, regardless of their past experiences.

I am not a therapist and this is not a clinical space. As a trauma-informed educator and practitioner, I am not prescribing medication, treating or diagnosing my client’s mental health, or working outside of my scope of competence. As a trauma-informed guide, I anchor my work in the present, not the past. I focus on the client’s current life and how trauma is affecting them today. My aim is to utilize tangible practices to help clients build up their strengths, build nervous system resilience, healthy beliefs, and empowering coping strategies. I serve as support and always operate in a manner that is specific to the client.
